Today we’re excited to announce the general availability of Knock's redesigned template editor, a ground-up rebuild of one of the most-used surfaces in Knock.

The new editor works the way you expect a modern template editor to work: you write your message naturally, format it inline, and drop dynamic variables in as you go. Everything you add becomes its own block, so its easy to adjust your template and preview how it will render as you build.

Build emails like Notion docs

The Knock template editor now feels more like writing a doc in Notion instead of hand-authoring markup in a code box. Type your message, format text styling, and insert content blocks with a snappy, modern user experience.

Each element of your template (headers, paragraphs, buttons, images, and more) shows up as its own block. Drag blocks to reorder your content, click in to format each one, and preview how each block will render on the right, without touching any code.

Highlight any text and the formatting toolbar appears with the styling options you expect—bold, italic, links, headings, and more. The toolbar stays out of your way until you need it, so you spend your time on copy and layout, not markup.

Dynamic content with autocomplete

Greet each customer by name, render a line item for every order in their cart, or add a callout only visible to product admins—all from a single email template. Whether you're building transactional, onboarding, or lifecycle emails, the editor supports dynamic content for a personalized touch.

Type {{ and the editor surfaces variables from your account, grouped into different schemas so you can find the right data fast. Keep typing to narrow down the list, so you spend less time hunting for variable paths.

You can also insert Liquid syntax to load and control dynamic content.

Liquid and variables stay visible inline as you edit, so conditional logic, loops, and dynamic variables read clearly inside the document itself.

Get started

The redesigned template editor is available today for all Knock customers. Open any workflow or broadcast email step to try it out, or read more in our documentation.
